See this previously-perfectly-good mustang? This is the embodiment of the current state of the FP and all your comments about overlords of such. You’re right. It was better before. But here it is now. And you have to decide if you want to ask the rental company to replace it with a Versa, or go for the convertible.
I know we’ve lost good content because of cutbacks due to Denton’s significantly prurient interest in the sex-life of a previous supposed champion in what we all recognize to be a poor take on a modern fake-gladiator contest. I get that it sucks. By which I mean Nick sucks. Hulk. But beyond that...
I also get that the FP has been overrun with idiocy and cross-posting that is of little interest to people who are actually interested in cars. BTW, just for a moment seriously consider the oddity that Gawker, a Kardashian-controlled (figuratively if not literally) gossip site, is somehow a controller of a feminist site, a sports-for-people-who-hate-athletes site and a cars-for-people-who-only-want-to-know-if-Bieber-drives-a-brown-manual-wagon site (he doe, he must, it’s supposed to be cool right?) yet somehow along the way, this same conglomeration of stupidity allowed a bunch of unwashed legitimate car-lovers to claim sqautter’s rights on a legitimate car-loving forum? (My 6th grade English teacher demands you diagram that sentence.) That is a Cliif’s Notes version of how we are all here talking about this long string of stupidity right now.
However, since these bone-headed (and boner-focused — I’m looking at you Denton) idiots continue to pay for our server space, and since none of us are ready to pony-up the bandwidth that a site as busy as Oppo requires, I propose you accept a potato pic of an e46 M3 and pipe down while you look for better options. Let me know when you find them.
I promise I’ll post details of that poor Mustang when I am done grieving for it.
Love you bunches.

I get that we “owe” Jalopnik and Gawker for creating Oppo, but this site still has ads on it, or at least that what my ad blocker says. So every time we click on this site we make them money. So really we don’t owe them shit for ruining perfectly good websites and firing excellent writers.

Considering the sheer amount of articles that Oppo has produced for the FP for free over the years (and that’s millions and millions of page views), I don’t think Oppo owes anything to Jalopnik... We have done our share of paying Jalopnik back for hosting fees and have earned our right to shitpost all over Oppo all day long :)

Actually ad blockers do what they do: block ads... So if they get money per ad views and not per ad click, they make no money out of you, other than through posts the marketing department writes (assuming that they sell space based on how much daily traffic they can get and how much potential sales can be done through their discounted offers... taking a small percentage of each sale done through their links). (ie: links to amazon, promoting products directly and not through a 3rd party internet advertising company)

Gawkers entire motive behind these blogs is to harvest the good/popular content for their website fps.
I am refusing my time and talents to be used for free and contributing to future lay-offs of Jalop staff by dilligently making decent/interesting observations, discussing some personal stuff and shit posts - none of which are good article fp material.
You’re welcome!
Oppo generates required freedombucks for hosting and provides eyeballs and a community for Jalop. That should be more than enough.

Well, I meant they make money on those who don’t use ad blockers. I don’t always use an ad blocker.
All the content on Oppo is user generated, therefore, it costs Gawker nothing. And in terms of maintaining Kinja which allows us to keep posting, the authors also use Kinja, so it is in their best interest to continue to maintain Kinja. So in the end, Oppo really doesn’t cost them anything.

You use your car to go to work right? So since you already maintain it all and what not would you mind if I use it every day while you’re at work to go run some errands? I’ll put gas in it sometimes maybe.

Analogy does not work for Oppo... We’ve offered millions and millions of clicks for free thanks to the tons of articles that were shared for 100% free on the FP.
A good analogy would be that you both pay for maintenance on his cars, which means that you can also use it from time to time.

Even that analogy isn’t great. I think a better one might be a train or metro system. Our taxes (articles and clicks every day) pay for the overall system, so in return for that we can pay a small fee to use it every day.
Or at least I think that works.

The FP posts are a great point. I don’t know if all my pieces have cracked a million views, but I’m pretty damn close, so I deserve to use an ad blocker. And I don’t owe them shit.

I agree. I hold the lovely distinction of having the first Kinja Oppo article ever posted to the FP. Of course, FP commenters being FP commenters, I received no less than 50 comments about how I was a shitty writer...
And I’m just sitting back like “Oh shit, I’m on the Front Page!”

I started reading Jalopnik in 2011, and made an account in 2013 the very day Kinja was launched. I loved the idea about having my own blog in a very palatable format that didn’t require website building and already had an audience. I decided I’d make my blog about smart cars, and snagged the Kinja URL “smart” before anyone else could.
One of my first ever Kinja posts got shared to the FP. I dug back, it wasn’t even an Oppo post. One of the fp authors somehow found it and shared it...As you can see, being the first personal Kinja blog post shared to the FP, most people weren’t very happy with my writing.

And this was the post that made me a lot more well-known within this community:

Damn, had no idea you were around for this long! Will read the smart article later on as I’m about to go to sleep now... I haveto confess though: I don’t like Smarts very much.... Sorry :)
I known who you are though :)

Go to sleep silly! :) And it’s okay...I tend to like things most people don’t...I tend to *do* things an increasing number of people don’t like lol.
The article was actually just something I wrote about how a smart was the only city car to pass the ADAC’s crash test. Though granted, that was 2013...guaranteed there are more city cars that can pass it now.
